To replace the starter on a 1995 Honda TRX300 4 Wheeler you will need:
). Start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal
). Flip the run switch into the off position
). Here is a picture of the starter, what we are after.
). Remove the starter. Remove the positive battery connection from the top of the starter. If you didnt disconnect the battery lead, you will know why now. Remove the two bolts from the back of the starter. Gently pry the starter to dislodge it from the motor. There is little clearance but the starter will come out with some gentle wiggling and prying.
). This is a view into the primary crank case. This is where the shaft of the starter inserts into.
). Here are some pictures of the old and new starter.
). Putting the new starter in is more difficult than removing the old one. I put the new starter in as much as possible with just my hands and then used the long punch to gently tap the new starter into place. I tapped from the opposite side of the machine with the punch inserted through the engine between the exhaust headers.
). Tools required.
